Dear Friends,
I, Viktor Lewin, recently returned from a trip to Poland - specifically to Warsaw, Siedlce, and Losice .
In Losice I once again saw the recovered matzevot and spoke to Mayor Kobylinski who remains optimistic regarding the future of the memorial project .
Another objective of my visit to Losice was to present the first annual scholarship award to three students of the local high school . It is our hope that this scholarship will encourage students to learn about the Jewish history of their town and how the Holocaust devastated it's Jewish population .
Along with the prize awards I included a poem which was written by my daughter . I would like to share it with you .

Our Sanctuary
Bird songs greet the visitor
who emerges with the spirit,
accosts the hollow sound
of people of the past.
No company in decades,
mindful of the weeds
that twist around the memory,
and creep around the trees.
A secret place, inhabited
too long vacant to the eye,
where sorrow and laughter resonates
with vibrations of their lives.
A gust within the pleasant air
is breath that still remains.
The whispered voice of multitudes
calling out their names.
Layers upon layers
of time’s declining hour,
yet broken stones and broken lives
reconnect with honour.
