The
Organization of Former Jewish Residents of Bialystok and its Surroundings in
In 1993,
the
In 1995, in cooperation with the local authorities, a Monument of Testimony was erected in the city center, at the site where the Great Synagogue once stood and which was destroyed and burnt by the Germans with 2000 Jewish citizens.
The Monument consists of two parts, shaped in a special form, the crown of one part bearing the exact copy of the Great Synagogue dome. The other part of the Monument consists of a wall on top of, which is a Menorah made of copper adorned with two bronze surfaces in the middle. On one of these is a beautiful inscription on graphite from the Great Synagogue and on the second surface is carved a perpetuation text in Hebrew, Polish and English.
These are
important perpetuation undertakings in a list of efforts initiated and financed
by the Organization of Former Jewish Residents of Bialystok and its
Surroundings in
It should be noted that the headquarter of the Committee is at the Culture and Archives Center, "Hall of Bialystok", located in Kiriat Bialystok ("Bialystok Neighborhood"), Yehud, Israel.
