A Letter from WJRO

Translation

Jerusalem, 24 August 2000

Dear Mrs. Holtzman,

In reply to your email regarding the restoration of the Synagogue of Gombin, I kindly wish to suggest to you to appeal to the heads of the Jewish Communities in Poland and have their opinion on your plan.

You surly know that the program to erect a synagogue, even if only symbolic, to commemorate the Jewish community of Gombin, involves an immense investment of funds. You should also consider trials for damaging this building, if ever re-erected, by Anti-Semite factors.

From the restitution point of view, the right to claim the plot of land on which the destroyed synagogue stood, was given to the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland and its leader is:

Mr. Jerzy Kichler
Chairman,
Union of the Jewish Religious Communities in Poland
6 Twarda Street
Warszawa
Poland

Sincerely,

Naftali Lavi
