Dr. Thomas Rahe is the Manager of the Bergen Belsen Site in Present!

The Jewish religion had a special truthful aspect in the survival of the victims of the

Nazi Concentration Camps.
Universe of fear, death, despair, hunger and sickness had their effect and seal on the behavior and the thought of the prisoners and Shoa martyrs.
What was the importance of Judaism in the horrible reality of the Nazi camps?
To what extent did the Jewish religion help to preserve humanity and Jewish identity?
What was the contribution of the Jewish faith to the survival?
How did the Jewish believer conceive the Holocaust?
Dr. Thomas Rahe tries to avoid quick judgement in those most important questions, and the banality of the answers. He researched what happened in the Nazi German camps and bases his book on thousands of documents and interviews with Holocaust survivors.

From the Catalogue to the Exhibition: "Bergen Belsen", Niedersachsische Landeszentrale fur politische Bildung, 1990, translation of page 74:

Ittka was born to a textile merchand from Lodz. At home they spoke three languages: Polish, german and yiddish. After her studies in school, Ittka studied book-keeping. After the occupation, the family was compelled to live in Ghetto Lodz. There, her beloved father and one brother died of hunger. Her mother, her sister, another brother and her were transported to Chelmno in September 1942 and killed immediately. Ester and sister Ittka expelled to Auschwitz, in August 1944, where they are selected to work slavery. They were sent to bergen belsen, external unit of the ammunition factoryHamibiren Ovelgene (phonetically spelt). After the closure of the factory, the two sister were transported to bergen belsen. Theer, on April 1st, 2 weeks only before liberation, Ittka dies. Ester is left alone, one person of the whole family.
